Super Bowl Road Trip

Every year I have a Super Bowl party at Big K's Pub in my basement. This year, I'm in dire need of a winter trip. I'm thinking Vegas. For the Super Bowl. Vegas Baby! I'm thinking the sports book at Caesar's Palace. Watchin' the Superbowl on a TV as big as my house! Sound good? I think so. Book it!

This has *got* to be one of the ugliest NFL games I have ever watched!

But it looks like a W for the Lions! Woohoo!

Golfing in March

I played golf yesterday. In March! In Michigan! And I got sunburned! Too cool.

I shot 91. Not too bad. I guess I shouldn't be upset because after all, it is the first round of the season. And I only played four times last year. Actually I could've broke 90 but I took an eight on number five and sixes on seven, eight, and nine. Geez, could've been in the low to mid 80's! Damn. It would've been nice to break 90 on the first time out. My goal for this year is to shoot consistently in the 80's and possibly a round or two in the 70's. I think that would definitely be doable if I get out enough.

My buddy Scott shot 77. Seventy seven on the first round of the season! Awesome.

My Backup

Being a Detroit Lions fan can be agonizing. For that reason, when you live in Michigan and you are a Detroit Lions fan, you have to have a backup. What's a backup? A backup is another team that you can root for that doesn't suck like the Lions. If you are a football fan and a fan of the Lions, it is essential that you have one. If you don't, your head gets awfully sore and bumpy from pounding it into the wall.

Anyway, my backup is the Denver Broncos. I like the Broncos for several reasons...

They are usually a good team and fun to watch.

My sister lives in Littleton Colorado and introduced my dad and me to them many years ago.

I wish I lived in Colorado so having them as my backup gives me a link to Colorado. Besides my sister of course! :)

There are more but, you get the picture.

Anyway, the other day I found a pretty neat neon sign for the bar on Ebay and it arrived in the mail today. Looks pretty cool if you ask me.

I'm not a runner, but I play one on the Internet

Not really. I wish I were a runner but I'm not. Not yet anyway. Years ago, (God I sound old when I use that phrase) I think it was in the 80's, I watched one of the first Ironman Triathlons on ABC's Wide World of Sports. I was fascinated by it. It was well before the race had the popularity it has today. I can remember the people literally crawling over the finish line. I was just awestruck (is that a word?) at the dedication and passion that those people had. It was just amazing. A little while after that I actually told a guy I worked with that I was going to train for one. Yeah right. I don't think I took one step towards that goal. I suck.

Anyway, now I read about triathlons and marathons and the people who compete in them on their blogs on the Internet. I must say that I think these people are just awesome. They are so passionate about their sport and it is so inspiring. Who knows, maybe one day...Yeah right. Right now I get winded putting my socks on. I suck.

I am however, starting "The Abs Diet" tomorrow. I read the book months ago but never really got going on the diet. Hmm. I've only done that about 100 times before. I suck. Anyway, I've been talking with my wife lately about my eating habits and she's going to help me out. We went shopping this morning and spent a lot on the food. Gotta have the food in the house or you're in trouble! Who knows, I might even be able to meet some of my goals. I really need to do something about this. And then? Maybe I won't suck anymore. ;)

What a weekend! Saturday I went to the Michigan game and Sunday to the lowly Lion's game. Had a great time, maybe too great! Thought I'd post some pictures from the Michigan tailgate. Click on the image to see it bigger.

Gotta love the flags...

These people used to tailgate in the golf course but I guess it's getting to be a pain over there so they thought they'd give this place a try. They have a real nice setup!

We left Saturday morning at 9:30 am and I got home around 10:00 pm on Saturday night! Sunday, we left again at 9:30 am and I got home around 8:00 pm. No wonder I'm so tired!

It's that time of year again. I'm sorry to see summer go but you can't beat FOOTBALL SEASON!

Marc Bulger, STL QB
Joey Harrington, DET QB - I know! I know! It was late and I was drunk!
Tiki Barber, NYG RB
Michael Bennett, MIN RB
Reuben Droughns, CLE RB - I'm not so sure about this one.
Priest Holmes, KCC RB
Anquan Boldin, ARI WR
Braylon Edwards, CLE WR - Go Blue Baby!
Joe Horn, NOS WR
Ashley Lelie, DEN WR
Justin McCareins, NYJ WR
Chris Cooley, WAS TE
Alge Crumpler, ATL TE
Matt Stover, BAL PK
Buffalo Bills, Def
Indianapolis Colts, Def

I really messed up as 3 of my 4 running backs have a bye week the 5th week of the season. Damn. I'm definitely not going to drop one of them.
One Down, A Lifetime To Go

I went back to the gym today. Woo Hoo!! The first time in, oh, I don't know. A YEAR OR SO!!! For me, the hardest part of working out is going that very first time. I don't know why, it just is. Plus, I'm in such bad shape, that I was afraid to go. No, not because I look so bad that I'd be embarrassed. But because I was afraid I'd have a heart attack or something while I was there. I can see it now...

I'm on the treadmill and, Boom! I'm gone. The treadmill is still going so it just shoots me off the back end right into the big window in front of the gym breaking the glass and making all kinds of noise. But that's not the worst of it. I mean, I'm dead, what do I care about the window and the noise? It's the stories afterward. The ones like...

“Dude. You won't believe this. I was at the gym today? And this old guy? Died. Right on the treadmill. Really. It was awesome.”

Well ha ha to that guy! I went. And I didn't have a heart attack! And I walked on the treadmill. I lifted weights. And I even road the stationary bike for awhile. I will probably not be able to get out of bed in the morning but right now? I haven't felt this good in, oh, I don't know. A YEAR OR SO!!!

And now? I just gotta keep going.

Big Day for the Krunchers

Detroit, Michigan - Last week Big K's Krunchers crushed the American Rhinos in a decisive 128.60 to 58.80 victory to clinch a spot in the playoffs in their inaugural season. The Kruncher's Drew Bennet scored an impressive 41.30 points and nearly beat the lowly Rhinos on his own. Deuce McAllister and Daunte Culpepper added 24.00 and 18.00 points respectively to finish off the Rhinos who finished in last place in the league.

This weekend, the Krunchers (8-6-0) butt heads with the Gamblers (8-6-0) in the first round of the NWFL league playoffs. The Krunchers are looking toward Daunte Culpepper to have a huge game today against the lowly Detroit Lions to add to Tiki Barber's 17.40 effort against the Steelers yesterday.

With the Gamblers having the likes of Brett Favre and Marvin Harrison, the Krunchers have their work cut out for them.
